A Tax File Number (TFN) verification error indicates that Deakin couldn’t verify your TFN with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
This generally means that either:
- your name, date of birth or address as shown on your Deakin student record are not identical to the details held by the ATO or
- the TFN you provided to Deakin is incorrect.
Check your details
It is urgent that you check your personal details in your ATO myGov account or call the ATO on 13 28 61 to make sure that they match the records you have with Deakin in StudentConnect. Double check spelling, spaces, apostrophes or hyphens in your name and address details and that the TFN you have provided Deakin is correct.
Update your details
If your details do not match, you need to update the incorrect details.
- To update your ATO details, log into your myGov account or call 13 28 61.
- To update your name or date of birth on your Deakin student record, contact Student Central using the details below.
- You can update your address in StudentConnect.
- To provide the correct TFN, complete a new eCAF in StudentConnect.

When your details have been corrected, you can contact Student Central by:
- submitting an enquiry through the online form
- calling 13 DEAKIN (13 3325) if you’re within Australia or +61 3 9244 6333 from overseas
- for enrolment and course advice you will need to book an appointment online via our Student Central webpage. You will be able to choose to take the appointment over phone, using zoom or face to face on campus.
