How to start a conversation with your Unit Chair

In Person:

If you feel comfortable approaching your Unit Chair in person, after a class or seminar, you may want to start the conversation like this:

"Hi, I was wondering if you have a few minutes for a quick chat? If the answer is Yes, you may want to continue like this: "I'm <your name> and I have an Access Plan and there are a few adjustments that I would like to discuss with you - would you like me to make an appointment to see you or would you prefer me to send you an email?"

OR

"My Access Plan outlines some adjustments that I need to be successful in my studies. I need to talk to you about...." include relevant adjustments for this Unit.

OR

"Hi, I'm <your name> I just wanted to make contact as I have an Access Plan. At the moment I don't think I need anything but I will be in contact in needed."

Email

Dear (Unit Chair)

My name is <your name> and I am a student in <Unit Code> class. My student ID is XXXXXXXXX.

I have an Access Plan and my Disability Liaison Officer (DLO) has encouraged me to get in touch with you to discuss the adjustments listed in my Access Plan, specifically e.g.I understand we will have an oral presentation in Week 8. I do experience some difficulties with oral presentations and I was hoping to speak with you to learn a little more about the task and how I might demonstrate my learning.

Please can you let me know if any further information in order to accommodate this adjustment?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regard
